A chocolate-free Advent calendar for children costs between 19.95 € and 50 € in 2026: 24 little books from Père Castor, a story lamp from Moulin Roty, a mystery from Hachette, 252 bricks from LEGO. The child's age guides the choice far more than the budget does.
Which age each kids' Advent calendar suits
The right set is above all one the child can open on their own. Before age 6, books and lamps dominate; from age 7, puzzles and building sets hold up better over 24 days.
| Set | Age | Contents | Price (11 October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Le calendrier de l'Avent du Père Castor (Flammarion Jeunesse) | 3 to 6 years | 24 little books, classics and recent stories | 25.90 € |
| Moulin Roty, La Grande Famille, illustrated by Camille Jourdy | from age 3 according to the maker | 1 story lamp and 23 projector discs | around 49.90 € |
| Mon coffret de l'Avent, by Juliette Saumande and Lili La Baleine (Hachette Enfants) | 3 to 6 years | 96-page book, lamp and 3 discs | 19.95 € |
| Enquête Mystère de l'Avent, by Sandra Collet and Stéphanie Alastra (Hachette) | 7 to 12 years | 24 envelopes, over 110 puzzles, detective kit | 19.95 € |
| LEGO City, reference 60510 | from age 5 | 252 pieces behind 24 windows | 26.99 € |
Prices announced by publishers and manufacturers on 11 October 2026, before any promotion; the price for Juliette Saumande's set comes from a figure published by CNEWS on the same date.
The Père Castor calendar isn't new this year: the title has been carried over, which is why it's sometimes found discounted. For a child who already devours novels, the idea of a whole book printed on a poster takes over after the 25th.
How much a chocolate-free calendar costs, and how to check the price
LEGO offers four official calendars in 2026, from 26.99 € to 34.99 €, available since 1 September and with no increase compared with 2025. The recommended price stays listed on the brand's website: it's the only stable reference once marketplaces start overheating as December approaches. Compare it with the reseller's price before confirming your basket.
Availability, meanwhile, is decided even earlier. By mid-October, the Moulin Roty set was already out of stock at several retailers. Lamp-based sets and limited editions sell out first and are rarely restocked in November. If budget is tight, the Hachette titles at 19.95 € hold their own alongside our gift ideas under 20 euros.
Two budgets not to mix up: December and the 25th
The ritual runs from 1 to 24 December, and the presents arrive the next day: two separate budgets. Set both amounts at the same time, otherwise the December set quietly eats into the Christmas Eve budget without anyone deciding it should.
The other classic mishap is duplication: the godmother buys the same book calendar as the grandmother, because nobody said who was in charge of it. Note the chosen set in your child's Christmas list with the label "already bought", as recommended by the duplicate-proof method: it applies to the whole of December, not just Christmas Eve. All that's left is agreeing who buys what, which takes five minutes once the family creates its Christmas list.
