Five LEGO Harry Potter sets are currently on sale ahead of Christmas 2026, from the 499-piece Knight Bus to the 2,660-piece Hogwarts Castle and Grounds. Before comparing discounts, check the age printed on the box: 8, 10 or 18. Between an 8+ and an 18+ set, it's not the same gift, nor the same person assembling it.
What the age rating changes for a LEGO Harry Potter set at Christmas 2026
Three of the five sets are aimed at children, one targets pre-teens, and only one is meant for adults. LEGO rates the Hogwarts Castle and Grounds (set 76419) as 18 and up: give it to a 9-year-old and it will likely end up being built by a parent on a Sunday in January.
| Set | Age | Pieces | LEGO RRP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dobby the Free Elf (76469) | 8+ | 379 | price in euros n/a |
| Herbology Class (76445) | 8+ | 390 | €49.99 |
| Knight Bus Adventure (76446) | 8+ | 499 | €49.99 |
| Hogwarts Express Book Nook (76450) | 10+ | 832 | €99.99 |
| Hogwarts Castle and Grounds (76419) | 18+ | 2,660 | €169.99 |
For a child discovering the saga, Herbology Class remains the clearest choice: a greenhouse, three Mandrakes created specifically for this set, and minifigures of Neville Longbottom, Hermione Granger and Professor Sprout. The Knight Bus plays a different card, that of a scene brought to life, with five minifigures and sets inspired by Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Note the exact reference in the children's Christmas list: it avoids mix-ups in store.
Watch out for the Dobby set: the poseable figure transforms into Kreacher, but LEGO specifies that both models cannot be built at the same time. It's a 2-in-1, not two characters displayed side by side.
November 2026 discounts versus LEGO's official prices
A crossed-out price means nothing until you compare it to LEGO's official RRP. The Knight Bus was listed at €36.99 on Amazon.fr in early November 2026, a 26% discount on the recommended €49.99. Herbology Class was around €34 at Smyths Toys, and the Hogwarts Express Book Nook around €69 versus €99.99. The castle had dropped to around €117 according to a price comparison dated 31 October 2026.
Dobby the Free Elf escapes this comparison: no official euro price has been published for set 76469, so there's no measurable gap against a crossed-out price. The other two 8+ sets in the table, recommended at €49.99 for 390 and 499 pieces, remain the closest benchmark for judging a deal on its 379 pieces.
These figures shift quickly. The real tipping point remains Black Friday on 27 November 2026, although the logic of buying Christmas toys early protects more against empty shelves than against a bad deal.
Sets about to be discontinued take priority over the biggest discounts
LEGO lists Herbology Class and the Hogwarts Express Book Nook as soon to be discontinued. Nearly twenty Harry Potter references are expected to leave the catalogue by the end of 2026, with a second wave expected in December. Conversely, the retirement of Hogwarts Castle and Grounds has been pushed back, with Brick Fanatics now listing it among the sets retiring in 2028.
The practical takeaway: buy what's disappearing first, not what shows the biggest percentage off.
A three-figure gift deserves a set number
Hogwarts sets can look alike on a shelf, and two uncles might easily aim for the same greenhouse. Write down the set number, not just its name, when you create your free Christmas list to share with the family. A clearly noted "76446" beats "the purple bus," especially when the box costs as much as three gifts combined.
